Maze Runner: The Scorch Trails: Movie Review

I've always been a the-book-is-better-than-the-movie kind of person until I watched the first Maze Runner movie. Wanting to have a better experience when I watch the other movies, I stopped myself from reading the second and third books afterwards because I didn't want to spoil the story for myself.

For once, the movie is better than the book.

And the second movie, The Scorch Trials didn't let me down.

I never really understood the feeling of 'oh this movie kept me at the edge of my seat' even though I used it quite a lot in my previous movie reviews. But for this movie review, I can finally say that it kept me at the edge of my seat because it really did. The actors, storyline, all-surround sound made me feel that I was in the movie. I was so engrossed in the movie that I thought that I was in the Scorch with Thomas and Minho, that I was clinging on my life for survival.

At times when the characters were running and parkouring around, it made me stomp on the ground because I thought I had to run for my life too. Though, it wasn't just the action scenes that were amazing. There were no boring and irrelevant scenes, not even when the actors were plain talking.

Let's not forget the amazing storyline with one mind-blowing plot twists after the other which really got me wondering what's going to happen next in the movie. The characters and story were developed so well that it could easily invoke emotions out of the audience (maybe just me but still ). Hope, despondency, anger, relief and fear. All these emotions welled up inside me as the movie played as if it was really happening to me

Although Maze Runner is a popular movie and I think it was just released, the cinema wasn't fully filled which is quite unexpected. Maybe it's because I have a liking for escape-and-survive stories such as Lorien Legacies so this post is 95% bias but for those who are Maze Runner fans, this movie will surely pump up your adrenaline even when you're seated down.

Big Hero 6 Movie Review

"Ow!"

"Hi I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion."

From the directors of Wreck it Ralph, Rapunzel and Frozen, Disney Animation Studios presents the 6th sequel of Big Hero! Apparently, this film was inspired from Marvel Comics superhero team with the same name. Oh and I was just kidding about this film being the 6th sequel. There isn't a big hero 1-5 hehe

The film was set in San Fransokyo which I suppose is a combination of San Francisco and Tokyo. 

Sypnosis:

A film about a nerdy genius 14 year old who wanted to devote his life to bot-fighting ending up in trying to enter his brother's nerd school, the Sans Fransokyo Institute of Technology lab after his brother brought him there. Amazed by how much he could learn and do there, he decided to get into the school.

Of course you can't just be accepted in a school without showing off your skills. Hiro has to blow away the institute's professors in the science-technology fair where other people show case their inventions. All went well until something happened. 

Teaming up with 4 other nerds, Go-go, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred and Hiro's personal healthcare companion, they decided to take down the mysterious evil masked man.

Review: A film that was directed by the director of Disney Frozen will no doubt be amazing as well, especially when there are futuristic technologies in the film! 

The movie is action-packed with its amazing graphics and tense background music that will make you so engrossed you'll be shifting to the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next.

It was also really hilarious whenever Baymax, the marshmallow robot, does something really stupid but cute.

Not sure about you but this is definitely my favourite scene in the whole movie when Hiro teaches Baymax the fistbump.

Let's not forget the brilliant plot twists...

Baymax sacrificed himself to save Callaghan's daughter, Abigail and Hiro from a worm hole

... and how some parts are so touching and sad it makes you want to hug yourself in a corner and cry. Don't be embarrassed if you did cause I thought it was pretty sad at some parts too.

If you think about it Big Hero 6's storyline is pretty much the same as Marvel Avengers'. Both movies talk about different people teaming up to fight a strong evil villain that seems impossible to defeat. Like IronMan from The Avengers, Baymax almost died trying to save Hiro and Abigail ( he didn't really die since he gave his chip to Hiro ).

But undeniably, Big Hero 6 is by far the best movie I've watched this year. Action packed, hilarious, heart-warming, Marvel and Disney at the same time so I strongly recommend it for those who have not watched it.

Bangkok Trip Day #2 Chinatown | Terminal 21 | Asiatique The Riverfront | Calypso Show

So after a month of procrastinating I've finally decided to write about the rest of my bangkok trip

Since the vacation was all the way back to September I don't remember what we did in the morning and afternoon but if I don't it means there wasn't any thing that was really fun or memorable (or maybe it's just that I have the shittiest memory ever :3 )... but then I saw some photos and I remembered so yeah.

Chinatown

So that morning wasn't as enjoyable for me as that place wasn't air-conditioned and it was quite hot in there.  (i hate sweating) Since it was right beside our hotel we decided to go there first by foot and we stupidly walked a big round before reaching there when there was a passageway from our hotel *facepalm*

Well I guess this is considered a shopping paradise for people who're soccer fans and accept counterfeit. We weren't interested in the other apparels there so we went straight up to the second floor which only sold soccer stuff like jerseys. They only cost 150-250 Baht and of course nothing that cheap is authentic but they are cheaper than the ones sold in Singapore. 

Terminal 21

As I've said earlier it's been two months since the trip so I couldn't remember what was in that store but MK restaurant.

Honestly I didn't really enjoy this meal as there were many things that I didn't like that much but was forced to stuff myself. All, except this plate of roasted duck, was below average for me. The meat was really tender and the sauce was brilliantly concocted too. If I knew that this dish would taste so amazing I would've just ordered two plates of it and finish it all by myself :D

 

Asiatique The Riverfront

We went to Asiatique in the evening and there was some Muay Thai thing going on there when we were there but we didn't have time for it because the main reason we were there was for the lady-boy (trannie) show. I've never really watched legit Muay Thai before and the closest thing to it was watching this hong kong tvb drama called 拳王.

If you guys are going here, do not buy anything. I think that place used to sell cheap stuff but since it's quite a popular tourist attraction they increased the prices of everything. Ram, Monice and I bought three keychains thing for 200 Baht in total (i think) and we found one that costs a lot cheaper in a floating market two days later.

My eyes lit up when I saw this and knowing it was impossible to persuade my family. I told myself I would come back and get as many items as I can. I'm not even sure what I'm going to do with it. Maybe I'll be an assassin when I grow up *o*

Baan Khanita

I really love spicy food so there was no doubt I wouldn't enjoy that meal. My dad ordered three pots of spicy stuff, green curry, red curry and tom yam. 

So... as it was two months since my taste buds came in contact with these delicious stomach burning food here^ I forgot what they taste like. But just so you know it was so spicy and addictive at the same time which made me drink spoon after spoon of curry directly. The amount of curry I consumed was probably sufficient to burn a hole in my stomach even after I drinking a bottle of cold water and the Thai Milk Tea (which is a must to drink in Thailand). Surprisingly this isn't sold anywhere and it was the first time I drank it that night.

There was still time before the show started so we decided to take some pictures and I stupidly went for a green tea cone. Ice cream + curry = really bad diarrhoea but I had no regrets since my stomach stopped hurting afterwards.

Calypso Bangkok

The last event for the day is a transgender (boy-girl) show which I was looking forward even though it'll probably be the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

My dad booked the seats in advance and that explains how we got the second row from the stage. And we got a cup of free drink.

This part is the funniest and you would be tearing up in laughter if you were there. To make it even more hilarious then it already is, she went down to the first row and gave a Caucasian man a kiss on the cheeks, leaving her... or his lipstick stain on his cheeks.

 

Since this is a transgender show, my first thought when I saw this was, 'shit were they girls?' And my dad sarcastically told me yes and I didn't know he was joking so I was mind-blown until the end when he told me he was only kidding. 

On a scale from 1 to 10 how weird is this? I'd give it an 8.
